Dudley’s new 89 kWp solar PV system now generates around 88.86 MWh of clean electricity every year – a major step toward their Net Zero goals.
Dudley’s Aluminium Ltd is a Cardiff-based manufacturer supplying high quality aluminium products to sectors including healthcare, education, defence, and commercial construction.
In 2025, after a consultation with one of our utility specialists, the business installed an 89 kWp solar PV system to support its journey toward Net Zero. To benefit fully from its clean energy, Dudley’s needed a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff – something they had never arranged before. That’s where we stepped in.
The Challenge:
Although the new solar panels were ready to produce clean, low-cost energy, Dudley’s faced several challenges with the SEG process:
- Setting up the correct export meters
- Managing a complex meter registration process
- Working through lengthy, technical administrative steps required by energy providers
As this was their first time securing an SEG contract, the could easily have felt overwhelming without specialist support. Without it, they risked losing income from the excess solar energy they would export back to the grid – especially during peak production months.
How Stadia Utilities helped:
We managed the entire SEG setup from start to finish, including:
– Handling all technical admin
– Communicating directly with energy providers
– Troubleshooting meter and registration issues
– Ensuring the contract was activated as quickly as possible
Thanks to our support, they were able to start exporting excess solar energy without delays, protecting their investment and helping them move forward with their sustainability goals.
The Impact:
Since partnering with us in 2025, Dudley’s Aluminium has achieved significant environmental benefits. After strongly advising them to go green where possible, this led to them installing their own solar system and working with us to set up the SEG tariff.
Clean Energy Generation: With the SEG contract now in place, the solar system produces around 88.86MWh of renewable electricity every year, enough to power roughly 3000 UK homes for a full day.
Significant Emissions Reduction: The SEG agreement mean the panels deliver a 77% reduction in electricity-related carbon emissions – equivalent to avoiding around 18 tonnes of CO2 per year, similar to taking 4 cars off the road.
Progress Toward Net Zero: This marks their biggest step toward reaching their 2050 Net Zero target.
Better Sustainability Reporting: As an ‘open book’ contractor, they can now provide transparent carbon data to their supply chain – supporting tenders, compliance, and ESG commitments.
What This Means for Dudley’s Aluminium:
With their SEG contract now fully in place, they can:
- Earn revenue from the excess solar energy they generate
- Achieve a stronger return on their solar investment
- Confidently plan further sustainability projects
